Container form

configuration Equipment Containers Containers view Container form

The Container form enables you to manually add or edit the container inventory for your site. Some facilities prevent containers from being received if they are not already in the system.

For most facilities, all containers are defined by the line operators through a fleet file, other, similar EDI file, or SNX. Use this form to add containers for line operators that do not import this information through EDI or SNX, and to manually edit existing containers. In addition, use this form when an unknown container arrives at the ingate and must be added to the system before it can be received.

For more information, see the Navis N4 EDI Admin and Troubleshooting Guide as well as Import EDI files using SNX and Import data in the N4 online help.

To add or edit a container:

  1. In the Equipment Number field, enter an ID that uniquely identifies the container in the system.

Once you save a container record, you cannot edit the Equipment Number.

  1. From the Equipment Type lookup field, select the equipment type ISO code for the container.

For more information on ISO codes, go to www.smdg.org.

Based on the selected equipment type ISO code, N4 populates the various fields in the Physical area on the Properties tab, automatically.

  1. From the ISO Group drop-down list, select the ISO group for the container.

For more information on ISO groups, go to www.smdg.org.

  1. Optionally, in the Ownership area, enter the Owner, Operator, and Build Date of the container.

During the gate process, N4 does not consider the Build Date or the Latest Manufacture Date as a criterion for retrieving empty containers using the EDOs (Equipment Delivery Orders).

  1. Use the following tabs to enter additional information for the container:

To mark the container as permanently out of service, select the Is POS check box.

  1. Click Save.

You can also use the Container form to record the strength code for the container. N4 stores the strength code as a flex field called eqStrengthCode. To display the eqStrengthCode field in the Container form, you must configure the eqStrengthCode field using the Administration Settings Fields view Edit Metafield form.

After you configure the eqStrengthCode, N4 uses the Long Label specified for the field to display the field in the Container form Properties tab Physical area for data entry and the Short Label defined for the field as a column heading in the Containers view (on page 1).
